Red Bull Racing are set to face mathematical elimination from championship contention in the Russian Grand Prix, the 16th race of the 2018 Formula 1 season.

Just three teams are still eligible to win the 2018 Formula 1 constructor championship with six races remaining on the 21-race 2018 schedule. However, one of those three teams are set to face mathematical elimination from championship contention in the season’s 16th race, the Russian Grand Prix.

Aston Martin Red Bull Racing are set to face elimination in this race at the 18-turn, 3.634-mile (5.848-kilometer) Sochi Autodrom in Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, Russia on Sunday, September 30.

Because of the fact that a maximum of 43 points are on the table for each team in each of the remaining six races of this season since race wins are worth 25 points and second place finishes are worth 18 points, all teams that are not within 258 points of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, which currently lead the constructor standings with 452 points, have been eliminated from championship contention.

All teams that are not within 215 points of Mercedes following the conclusion of the Russian Grand Prix will be mathematically eliminated from championship contention since just five races will remain on the 2018 schedule once this race is in the books.

Red Bull Racing currently sit in third place in the constructor standings with 274 points. They trail Mercedes by 178 points. As a result, they must avoid being outscored by Mercedes by more than 37 points in this race to avoid being mathematically eliminated from championship contention.

The only other team aside of Mercedes that are guaranteed to remain mathematically eligible to win the constructor championship after the Russian Grand Prix are Scuderia Ferrari. They currently sit in second place in the constructor standings with 415 points and trail Mercedes by 37 points. At worst, they will exit this race trailing Mercedes by 80 points.
