With Kasey Kahne set to miss another NASCAR Cup Series race, Regan Smith is set to replace him at Dover International Speedway.

Leavine Family Racing’s Kasey Kahne competed in the first 25 races of the 36-race 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season, the last of which being the Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway in early September.

However, 38-year-old Enumclaw, Washington native has missed the four races that have been contested since then with health issues following a case of extreme heat exhaustion that arose after the race at Darlington Raceway came to a conclusion.

In each of the four races that Kahne has missed so far this season, Regan Smith has been his replacement behind the wheel of the #95 Chevrolet.

Smith replaced Kahne in the regular season finale at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the three races of the first round of the playoffs, the round of 16. These races were the races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Richmond Raceway and the Charlotte Motor Speedway roval.

Now the 34-year old Cato, New York native is set to replace Kahne once again, this time in the opening race of the second round of the playoffs, the round of 12.

Smith is set to drive the #95 Chevrolet in the 400-lap Gander Outdoors 400 at the four-turn, 1.0-mile (1.609-kilometer) Dover International Speedway oval in Dover, Delaware.

Kahne was officially ruled out from competing in this race after he participated in a private medical test session on Tuesday afternoon with his physicians. It was at this time when Smith was announced as the driver of the #95 Chevrolet once again.

In his four relief appearances for Kahne so far this season, Smith has done a solid job. He finished in 20th place in the race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, 12th in the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and 15th in the race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway roval. His only bad result was his 31st place finish in the race at Richmond Raceway. His average finishing position is 19.5 even though his average starting position is 30.8.
