With Daniel Ricciardo set to drive for Renault in the 2019 Formula 1 season, will he win another race or races driving for Red Bull Racing before the 2018 season ends?

In early August, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo made the shocking decision to sign with Renault Sport for the 2019 Formula 1 season as Nico Hulkenberg’s teammate as opposed to staying with Red Bull Racing as Max Verstappen’s teammate.

The 29-year-old Australian has driven for Red Bull Racing since the 2014 season, and before that, he was a test driver for Scuderia Toro Rosso, the Red Bull Racing junior team, in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He drove for Toro Rosso in Formula 1 in the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

With Red Bull Racing being one of the three teams (Red Bull Racing, Mercedes and Ferrari) that have combined to win each of the last 114 races dating back to early in the 2013 season and Renault being a team that compete to be the “best of the rest“, it is unlikely that Ricciardo will be able to win races driving for Renault, at least not in the near future.

With four races remaining on the 2018 schedule, will the seven-time Grand Prix winner who has only ever won races driving for Red Bull Racing be able to secure another victory driving for the Milton Keynes-based team?

The four races remaining on the 2018 schedule are the United States Grand Prix, the Mexican Grand Prix, the Brazilian Grand Prix and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Ricciardo has never won any of these races before.

Will he be able to change that before the offseason between the 2018 and 2019 seasons begins?

In six United States Grands Prix starts, Ricciardo has recorded top finishes of third place. He finished in third in the race in the 2014 and 2016 seasons. In three Mexican Grands Prix starts, he has recorded a top finish of third as well. He pulled this off in the 2016 season.

In seven Brazilian Grands Prix starts, Ricciardo has recorded a top finish of sixth place, which he pulled off last season. Finally, in seven Abu Dhabi Grands Prix starts, he has recorded a top finish of fourth, which he pulled off in the 2014 season.

Ricciardo’s history in these particular four races is anything but fantastic. But that doesn’t mean that won’t change before the 2018 season ends. After all, Verstappen won last year’s Mexican Grand Prix, and he won it in dominant fashion. Could Ricciardo, who was forced to retire with a mechanical issue in this race, replicate that success in this year’s Mexican Grand Prix?

While Red Bull Racing have had their moments of strength in the United States Grand Prix, the Brazilian Grand Prix and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in recent years, particularly in the United States Grand Prix and the Brazilian Grand Prix, the Mexican Grand Prix undoubtedly stands out as the race that Ricciardo has the best chance to win before he officially joins Renault.

While Ricciardo, who has earned two victories so far this season, one in the Chinese Grand Prix and one in the Monaco Grand Prix, will not enter the Mexican Grand Prix weekend as the favorite to win the race, it would not be wise to count him out, especially with his time at Red Bull Racing coming to a close.
