The eight Formula 1, NASCAR Cup Series and IndyCar drivers who are set to advance to the round of 8 in the “GOAT” polls for each series have been determined.

The first round, the round of 16, of the polls in which you can vote for who you believe are the greatest Formula 1, NASCAR Cup Series and IndyCar drivers of all-time is in the books.

Eight drivers from each of these series — 24 in total — are set to advance to the next round of polls, the round of 8.

Here are the results of the round of 16 polls, including the winners of each of them and the percentage of the vote that each of the drivers received.

NOTE: The seeds for the 48 drivers included in these polls were determined by a simple mathematical formula that is based on two variables: championships and race victories. Championships count as 10 points each while race victories count as one point each. Tiebreakers go to the drivers with fewer career starts.

More from Formula One

Because of the fact that all of the polls throughout this process are set to take place as though they were matchups in a traditional 16-team seeded bracket, the highest remaining seeds are not guaranteed to match up against the lowest remaining seeds in the round of 8 or in any future round.

This can be already seen in the round of 8 matchups, as two upsets occurred in the round of 16, both in Formula 1. As a result, there are matchups in the round of 8 of the Formula 1 bracket in which the highest remaining seed is not matched up against the lowest remaining seed.

Here are the 12 round of 8 matchups across these three series.

Formula 1

(1) Michael Schumacher vs. (8) Niki Lauda
(2) Lewis Hamilton vs. (10) Fernando Alonso
(3) Sebastian Vettel vs. (6) Ayrton Senna
(13) Nigel Mansell vs. (5) Juan Manuel Fangio

NASCAR Cup Series

(1) Richard Petty vs. (8) Bobby Allison
(2) Jimmie Johnson vs. (7) Cale Yarborough
(3) Dale Earnhardt Sr. vs. (6) Darrell Waltrip
(4) David Pearson vs. (5) Jeff Gordon

IndyCar

(1) A.J. Foyt vs. (8) Bobby Unser
(2) Scott Dixon vs. (7) Rick Mears
(3) Mario Andretti vs. (6) Al Unser Sr.
(4) Sebastien Bourdais vs. (5) Dario Franchitti

There will not be any polls today. The round of 8 polls are scheduled to begin tomorrow, Wednesday, January 23, at 6:00 a.m. ET on our Facebook page. For more information about these polls, click the link below.
