Michael Schumacher is set to advance to the championship of the Formula 1 “GOAT” poll against an opponent who has not yet been determined.

Michael Schumacher became the first of two Formula 1 drivers who will advance to the fourth and final round, the championship round, of the Formula 1 “GOAT” poll in which fans can vote for who they believe is the greatest driver of all-time in the sport.

Schumacher entered the 16-driver bracket as the #1 seed, as seeds were determined by a simple mathematical formula that is based on two variables: championships and race victories. Championship count as 10 points each while race victories count as one point each.

No one was all that close to Schumacher when it came to seeding, as he earned an all-time record 91 victories and an all-time record seven championships throughout his Formula 1 career to earn a total of 161 points using this formula.

The closest driver to him in terms of seeding was Lewis Hamilton, who earned 123 points using this formula to enter the bracket as the #2 seed as a result of the fact that he has earned 73 victories and five championships over the course of his Formula 1 career thus far.

To put it bluntly, Schumacher advancing to the championship was not surprising, nor was the fact that he pretty much coasted through the bracket to get to this point.

In the first round, the round of 16, Schumacher was matched up against #16 Graham Hill, who earned 14 victories and won two championships throughout his Formula 1 career. Schumacher got 93% of the vote in this matchup while Hill got the other 7%.

In the second round, the round of 8, Schumacher was matched up against #8 Niki Lauda, who defeated #9 Nelson Piquet in the round of 16. Lauda earned 25 victories and won three championships over the course of his Formula 1 career. Schumacher got 88% of the vote in this matchup while Lauda got the other 12%.

Finally, in the third round, the round of 4, Schumacher was matched up against #13 Nigel Mansell, who upset #4 Alain Prost in the round of 16 and #5 Juan Manuel Fangio in the round of 8. Mansell earned 31 victories and won one championship over the course of his Formula 1 career. Schumacher got 85% of the vote in this matchup while Mansell got the other 15%.

Schumacher’s opponent in the championship has not yet been determined. He is set to be matched up against the winner of the poll between #2 Lewis Hamilton and #6 Ayrton Senna, which began at 6:00 a.m. ET this morning and it set to continue until 6:00 a.m. ET tomorrow.
