NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Busch took a shot at NBA player LeBron James for calling himself the greatest basketball player of all-time.

Toward the end of 2018, NBA player LeBron James, who is in his first season playing for the Los Angeles Lakers after spending each of the last four seasons playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, proclaimed himself as the greatest basketball player of all-time.

The 34-year-old Akron, Ohio native is a four-time NBA MVP and a three-time NBA champion who has competed in the NBA Finals nine times throughout his career. He has competed in the NBA Finals in each of the last eight seasons.

Of James’s three NBA championships, the one that stands out is the 2016 title, which he and his Cavaliers won over the Golden State Warriors, who broke the all-time single-season wins record by going 73-9 that season, only to infamously blow their 3-1 lead to the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.

As a result, James has proclaimed himself as the greatest basketball player of all-time. Here is what he had to say about the matter, according to CBS Sports.

"“That one right there made me the greatest player of all time…that’s what I felt. I was super, super ecstatic to win one for Cleveland because of the 52-year drought…The first wave of emotion was when everyone saw me crying, like, that was all for 52 years of everything in sports that’s gone on in Cleveland. And then after I stopped, I was like — that one right there made you the greatest player of all time.“Everybody was just talking — how [the Warriors] were the greatest team of all time, like it was the greatest team ever assembled. And for us to come back, you know, the way we came back in that fashion, I was like, ‘You did, you did something special.’ That’s probably one of the only times in my career I felt like, oh, s—, like you did something special. I haven’t had, really had time, to really, like, sit back and think, but that…that was a moment.”"

2015 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, however, thinks that it is ridiculous for James to proclaim himself as the greatest basketball player of all-time.

Here is what Busch had to say about the matter, according to Yahoo Sports.

"“I’m kinda weirded out by what LeBron James had to say a few weeks ago about he feels as though he’s the greatest of all time. You can’t self-proclaim that. I’ll never self-proclaim myself as the greatest of all time. Will I put myself in the discussion and say am I one of (the greatest ever)? Yes. Do I feel as though I could be one of the greatest of all time, like if it’s top five that you’re talking about? I would say yes. But never the No. 1.”"

More from NASCAR Cup Series

Busch is set to enter his 15th season as a full-time Cup Series driver this year. His career total of 51 ranks 11th on the all-time Cup Series wins list, and he has earned a total of 194 victories in Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Truck Series competition.

Only Richard Petty, who earned 200 Cup Series victories throughout his career, has earned more victories across NASCAR’s top three series that Busch has. Having not earned fewer than seven combined Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Truck Series victories in a season since he won just one Cup Series race in the 2012 season, Busch is poised to break that record this year.

But while Busch would list himself in a four-driver fantasy NASCAR team with David Pearson, Tim Flock and Dale Earnhardt Sr. if we were choosing drivers from any NASCAR era, he, unlike James, has no desire to answer the question regarding whether or not he is the greatest NASCAR driver of all-time.

Here is what he had to say about the matter, according to Yahoo Sports.

"“I’m not going to answer that question. Because it’s not for me to answer.”"
