Following the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season opener, the Daytona 500, how do the sport’s 15 full-time teams stack up against one another?

After failing to reach victory lane until the 19th race of the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series season and the seventh race of the 2018 season, Joe Gibbs Racing did what they did in the 2016 season and opened up the 2019 season with a victory in the Daytona 500.

They did so thanks to Denny Hamlin, who won the 61st annual running of the race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) high-banked Daytona International Speedway oval in Daytona Beach, Florida in his #11 Toyota.

This race was scheduled to be a 200-lap race but became a 207-lap race as a result of several late caution flag periods. Hamlin won the 58th annual Daytona 500 back in 2016 as well.

But it wasn’t just Hamlin who delivered for the team. Two of Hamlin’s three teammates, Kyle Busch and Erik Jones, rounded out the top three, as Busch finished in second place in his #18 Toyota and Jones finished in third in his #20 Toyota despite the fact that his car experienced a fuel pressure issue earlier in the race as well as the fact that he was involved in several of the race’s late wrecks.

In fact, Hamlin’s car had a fueling issue earlier in the race, and he fell one lap down as a result of it. But he managed to fight back and take the checkered flag ahead of his two teammates. Meanwhile, his other teammate, Martin Truex Jr., crashed out of the race in his first race driving for Joe Gibbs Racing behind the wheel of the #19 Toyota. He was officially scored in 35th place.

Spire Sports + Entertainment (Spire Motorsports) were removed from these rankings from the time these preseason rankings were released until now because of the fact that they are not set to have any full-time drivers driving for them this season. Obaika Racing were removed from these rankings from the time these preseason rankings were released until now because of the fact that they did not field a car in the Daytona 500 and are therefore not considered a full-time team at this point.
