Kevin Harvick took the pole position for the third race of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Pennzoil 400, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Hendrick Motorsports teammates Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott closed out the third and final qualifying session for the third race of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in first and second place, respectively, on the speed chart.

But the lap before they recorded the lap times that sent them to first and second place, both drivers just barely missed getting to the timing line before the clock hit 0:00.

As a result, Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick took the pole position for the 267-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) high-banked Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. He did so by recording a top lap time of 29.914 seconds (180.517 miles per hour) in his #4 Ford in the race’s third and final qualifying session.

Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch were the highest qualifying Toyota drivers for the race. They qualified in second and third place in their #11 Toyota and #18 Toyota, respectively.

Front Row Motorsports’ David Ragan qualified for the race in sixth place in his #38 Ford. He has not started a Cup Series race in the top six since he started in fifth in the September race at Richmond Raceway in the 2015 season when he was driving for Michael Waltrip Racing.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson, Roush Fenway Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Hendrick Motorsports’ Jimmie Johnson and Team Penske’s Joey Logano rounded out the top 10 by qualifying in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #42 Chevrolet, #17 Ford, #48 Chevrolet and #22 Ford, respectively.

Bowman and Elliott ended up finishing the third and final qualifying session for the race as the slowest two drivers. They qualified in 11th and 12th place in their #88 Chevrolet and #9 Chevrolet, respectively.
