NASCAR Cup Series: Kyle Busch signs contract extension with Joe Gibbs Racing

Kyle Busch has signed a multi-year contract extension to continue driving for Joe Gibbs Racing with Mars, Incorporated as his primary sponsor in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Kyle Busch has driven for Joe Gibbs Racing since the 2008 NASCAR Cup Series season, which was his fourth season as a full-time driver in the sport and his first after spending the first three seasons of his career as a full-time driver driving the #5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet.

The 33-year-old Las Vegas, Nevada native stated a few weeks ago that he and Joe Gibbs Racing were nearing a contract extension, which would likely end up being at least a three-year contract extension. The last time he signed a contract extension with the team was in November of 2015.

Busch has now indeed signed a contract extension to continue driving the #18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. While the details of this contract extension have not been revealed, it is, in fact, a multi-year contract extension that will likely keep him with the team for at least three more seasons.

Joe Gibbs Racing also signed a multi-year contract extension with Mars, Incorporated to keep the confectionery giant as the primary sponsor of Busch’s #18 Toyota. The company has been the primary sponsor or his #18 Toyota since he began driving for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Over the course of his Cup Series career, Busch has competed in 500 races and earned 51 victories, 184 top five finishes, 271 top 10 finishes and 31 pole positions. He has led 15,887 of the 139,406 laps that he has completed. He has recorded an average career starting position of 12.3 and an average career finishing position of 13.9, and he has won one championship.

Busch has driven for Joe Gibbs Racing in 386 of these 500 races, and he has recorded 47 of his 51 career victories, 154 of his 184 career top five finishes, 220 of his 271 career top 10 finishes and 29 of his 31 career pole positions driving for the team. He has led 14,315 of the 108,310 laps that he has completed as a Joe Gibbs Racing driver. In his 386 races driving for the team, his average starting position is 11.0 and his average finishing position is 12.8. He won the 2015 Cup Series championship driving for the team.
