The full-time driver lineup for the 2019 IndyCar season consists of 20 drivers, but 22 cars are set to be entered in each of the season’s 17 races.

The full-time driver lineup for the 2018 IndyCar season consisted of 20 drivers, but 22 cars were entered in all 17 of the season’s races. Following the news that Patricio O’Ward has signed a 13-race deal to drive for Carlin this year, this is set to be the case once again for the 2019 season.

In addition to the 20 cars that are set to be driven by 20 full-time drivers, who you can see listed here, throughout the 17-race 2019 season, two additional cars are set to be entered in each of the season’s 17 races.

These two cars are the #20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet and the #23 Carlin Chevrolet. The #20 Chevrolet is set to be driven by Ed Jones in the season’s 12 road and street course races, and it is set to be driven by Ed Carpenter in the season’s five oval races.

Jones is also set to drive Ed Carpenter Racing’s third car, the #64 Ed Carpenter Racing Scuderia Corsa Chevrolet, in the Indianapolis 500 as a teammate to Carpenter and Spencer Pigot, who is the team’s full-time driver of the #21 Chevrolet.

The #23 Chevrolet is set to be driven by Charlie Kimball in five races, including the season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, the three superspeedway races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Pocono Raceway, and the season finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. It is set to be driven by Patricio O’Ward in the season’s other 12 races.

O’Ward is also set to drive Carlin’s third car in the Indy 500 as a teammate to Kimball and Max Chilton, who is the team’s full-time driver of the #59 Chevrolet.

Last year, Carlin had two full-time drivers driving their two full-time cars, as Kimball drove the #23 Chevrolet on a full-time basis and Chilton drove the #59 Chevrolet on a full-time basis, whereas Dale Coyne Racing had only one full-time driver in addition to another full-time car. This has effectively switched for this season.

For Dale Coyne Racing, Sebastien Bourdais was the full-time driver of the #18 Honda last season, and the #19 Honda was driven by Zachary Claman DeMelo, Pietro Fittipaldi and Santino Ferrucci throughout the season. Bourdais is set to return to the team as the full-time driver of the #18 Honda this season while Ferrucci is set to drive the #19 Honda on a full-time basis.

The situation of the #20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet has only changed in that Jordan King was the driver of it in the road and street course races last season and Jones is set to replace him for these races this season. King is set to drive the #42 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda in the Indy 500 only.
