After Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist topped the speed chart in the first practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season opener, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Andretti Autosport veteran Ryan Hunter-Reay topped the speed chart in the second practice session for this race.

Hunter-Reay topped the speed chart in the second practice session for the 2019 season opener by recording a top lap time of 60.8969 seconds (106.409 miles per hour) around the 14-turn, 1.8-mile (2.897-kilometer) temporary street circuit in St. Petersburg, Florida in his #28 Honda.

Unlike in the first practice session when six Honda drivers swept the top six positions and eight of the top nine positions on the speed chart, one Chevrolet driver finished the second session in the top two while two finished it in the top five and five finished it in the top 10.
