Edoardo Mortara has been issued the equivalent of a drive-through penalty following the sixth race of the 2018-2019 Formula E season, the Sanya ePrix.

Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara originally finished the Sanya ePrix, the sixth race on the 13-race 2018-2019 Formula E schedule, in 10th place in his #48 Spark-Venturi. However, he was relegated to 13th place finish after receiving a penalty following the conclusion of the race.

Mortara was issued this penalty as a result of the fact that he did not activate attack mode the required two times throughout the course of the 36-lap race around the 11-turn, 1.156-mile (1.860-kilometer) Sanya Street Circuit temporary street circuit in Sanya, China.

Mortara was issued the equivalent of a driver-through penalty for committing this violation. This ended up being a 16-second time penalty for him. After originally finishing the race 22.208 seconds behind race winner Jean-Eric Vergne of DS Techeetah in 10th place, he has officially been scored in 13th, 38.208 seconds behind Vergne.

Venturi’s Felipe Massa and NIO teammates Oliver Turvey and Tom Dillmann, who originally finished the race in 11th, 12th and 13th place, respectively, ended up being promoted to 10th, 11th and 12th, respectively, as a result of the penalty that was issued to Mortara.

However, Mortara’s penalty only affected him and Massa in the driver standings, as only the top 10 drivers in each race score points. Mortara lost the one point that he earned by originally finishing in 10th place while Massa gained one point that he did not earn by originally finishing in 11th. Turvey and Dillman still ended up scoring zero points.

Mortara’s penalty did not even affect any teams in the team standings, not even Venturi, as Massa gained the one point that Mortara lost as a result of his penalty while NIO still ended up scoring zero points.

The Formula E Team Power Rankings and Formula E Driver Power Rankings had already been released after the Sanya ePrix before this penalty was issued to Edoardo Mortara. However, his penalty has been accurately reflected in the power rankings formula variables for both of these sets of rankings ahead of the Rome ePrix, which is the next race on the Formula E schedule.  Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR in Rome, Italy is scheduled to host this race, which is the seventh race of the 2018-2019 season, on Saturday, April 13, so be not to miss it.
