NASCAR has altered the rules package for the superspeedway races at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway later this season.

NASCAR has altered the rules package for the remaining three superspeedway races on the 36-race 2019 Cup Series schedule at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway.

The first of four superspeedway races on this year’s schedule, the Daytona 500, opened up the season at Daytona International Speedway back on Sunday, February 17. One day later, a test took place at the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) high-banked oval in Daytona Beach, Florida. prompting these changes since speeds were higher than what NASCAR wanted.

The Cup Series has not yet visited the four-turn, 2.66-mile (4.281-kilometer) high-banked Talladega Superspeedway oval in Lincoln, Alabama yet this season. The first of the two scheduled races at the track in 2019 is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 28.

Two changes were made to the rules package for the remaining three races at these two tracks throughout on this year’s schedule to decrease the speeds. First, the size of the spoiler has been increased from eight inches to nine inches, and a one-inch bold as been added to the track bar mount to change the height to 12 inches.

The season’s second race at Daytona International Speedway is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 6. The season’s second race at Talladega Superspeedway is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 13, and it is set to serve as the second race of the second round, the round of 12, of the playoffs.

While this year’s Daytona 500 was the final restrictor plate race, the style of racing at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway is expected to remain like it has been, featuring tight packs with drafting being the key to having a great result.

This expectation is primarily derived from the replacement of restrictor plates with tapered spacers, which is one of several changes that NASCAR made to the overall rules packages for the 2019 season.
