Kevin Harvick has not yet won a race in the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season after winning eight races last season. When will this change?

After winning the second race of the 36-race 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the lowest that Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick fell on the wins list was to a tie for first place. He ended the season tied with Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch for the most victories in 2018 with eight.

But through the first seven races of the 36-race 2019 season, Harvick has not yet found victory lane. In fact, he has not even finished a race in the top three.

When will the 43-year-old Bakersfield, California native break through with his first victory of the new year?

More from NASCAR Cup Series

It is no secret that the 2014 Cup Series champion is fully capable of winning at literally any track on the schedule, so without getting into specifics as to precisely when he might earn his first victory of the season, suffice it to say that the answer to this question is “soon”, and there are quite a few facts and figures that point to “soon” as being the answer to this question.

While Harvick has not yet won a race or even finished a race in the top three this season, his consistency has him in third place in the championship standings, which is where he finished in the 2018 season. His average finish through the season’s first seven races is 8.71.

Not including the season-opening wild card race that is the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, his average finish is 5.83. In fact, he has not finished outside of the top nine in any of the six races that have taken place since he finished in 26th place in the Daytona 500.

Throughout all of last season, Harvick only recorded more than four consecutive top nine finishes on one occasion, and as stated above, he is currently on a six-race top nine streak.

Last season at this time, Harvick had already won three races and earned four top two finishes. But his average finish was only 11.00, and not including the Daytona 500, it was only 7.50, two statistics that he has improved upon from the 2018 season to the 2019 season.

Additionally, the idea of Harvick currently being on nine-race win drought screams nothing but ticking bomb. He did go on a 10-race win drought last season, but this win drought included five finishes of 10th place or worse, including a 28th place finish and a 39th place finish. His average finish during this win drought was 12.40.

The only non-top nine finish in Harvick’s current nine-race win drought is his 26th place in this year’s Daytona 500. His average finish in these nine races is 7.67, and not including this 26th place finish, it is an impressive 5.38.

Simply put, he is due.
