NASCAR Cup Series: Daniel Hemric takes pole for 2019 Monster Energy Open

Daniel Hemric took the pole position for the Monster Energy Open, the NASCAR Cup Series exhibition race, at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Richard Childress Racing rookie Daniel Hemric took the pole position for Saturday night’s Monster Energy Open at Charlotte Motor Speedway, giving him the best chance to win one of the race’s three stages and advance to the Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race later tomorrow evening.

Hemric took the pole position for this 50-lap exhibition race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Charlotte Motor Speedway oval in Concord, North Carolina by recording a top lap time of 29.643 seconds (182.168 miles per hour) in his #8 Chevrolet.

Front Row Motorsports’ Michael McDowell qualified in second place in his #34 Ford. Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron qualified in third in his #24 Chevrolet. Stewart-Haas Racing’s Daniel Suarez and Wood Brothers Racing’s Paul Menard qualified in fourth and fifth in their #41 Ford and #21 Ford, respectively.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson, Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman and  JTG Daugherty Racing’s Chris Buescher were the slowest of the three drivers who advanced to the second round of qualifying for this race. They qualified in sixth, seventh and eighth place in their #42 Chevrolet, #88 Chevrolet and #37 Chevrolet, respectively.

Front Row Motorsports’ David Ragan and Richard Petty Motorsports’ Darrell Wallace Jr. were the fastest two drivers who did not advance to the second round of qualifying for this race. They rounded out the top 10 on the speed chart by qualifying in ninth and 10th place in their #38 Ford and #43 Chevrolet, respectively.

Leavine Family Racing’s Matt DiBenedetto was the highest qualifying Toyota driver of the race. He qualified in 12th place in his #95 Toyota.
