NASCAR Cup Series: Joey Logano takes pole for 2019 FireKeepers Casino 400

Joey Logano took his second pole position of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season for the season’s 15th race, the FireKeepers Casino 400, at Michigan International Speedway.

Team Penske’s Joey Logano took his second pole position of the 36-race NASCAR Cup Series season for the season’s 15th race, the FireKeepers Casino 400, at Michigan International Speedway and his first pole position since he took the pole position for the season’s sixth race at Martinsville Speedway back in late March.

Logano took the pole position for this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.0-mile (3.219-kilometer) Michigan International Speedway oval in Brooklyn, Michigan by recording a top lap time of 38.474 seconds (187.139 miles per hour) in the single-car qualifying session for this race in his #22 Ford. This pole position is Ford’s seventh and Team Penske’s third of the season.

Logano led a top three Ford sweep of the speed chart in this qualifying session, as Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Aric Almirola and Kevin Harvick qualified in second and third place in their #10 Ford and #4 Ford, respectively.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin was the highest qualifying Toyota driver for this race. He qualified in fourth place in his #11 Toyota ahead of two other Ford drivers, Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer and Wood Brothers Racing’s Paul Menard. Bowyer and Menard qualified in fifth and sixth in their #14 Ford and #21 Ford, respectively.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kurt Busch was the highest qualifying Chevrolet driver for this race. He qualified in seventh place in his #1 Chevrolet ahead of three other Ford drivers, Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski, Stewart-Haas Racing’s Daniel Suarez and Roush Fenway Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Keselowski, Suarez and Stenhouse Jr., qualified in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #2 Ford, #41 Ford and #17 Ford, giving Ford drivers eight of the top 10 positions on the starting grid for this race following a dominant qualifying session.
