Joey Logano dominated the FireKeepers Casino 400 to earn his second victory of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season and first since early March.

Team Penske’s Joey Logano earned his second victory of the 36-race 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season in the season’s 15th race, the FireKeepers Casino 400, at Michigan International Speedway after the race was postponed from yesterday to today as a result of rain. He also won the season’s third race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway back in early March.

Logano started this 203-lap race, which was scheduled to be a 200-lap race but went into overtime as a result of a late incident, around the four-turn, 2.0-mile (3.219-kilometer) Michigan International Speedway oval in Brooklyn, Michigan from the pole position in his #22 Ford en route to becoming the first polesitter to win a Cup Series race in nearly 11 months.

He held off Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kurt Busch in second place in his #1 Chevrolet by just 0.147 seconds to secure this victory. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. was the highest finishing Toyota driver of the race. He finished in third in his #19 Toyota, giving each manufacturer one of the top three finishing positions.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Daniel Suarez and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch rounded out the top five by finishing in fourth and fifth place in their #41 Ford and #18 Toyota, respectively. Busch spent much of the race running around 15th, but in typical Busch fashion, he made his way to the front by the end to contend for the victory.

Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski, Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick, Roush Fenway Racing’s Ryan Newman, Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney and Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman rounded out the top 10 by finishing in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #2 Ford, #4 Ford, #6 Ford, #12 Ford and #88 Chevrolet, respectively.

This race featured a total of 19 lead changes among 11 drivers. Aside of Logano, who led more laps than anybody in the field by far with 163 laps led, 10 drivers led at least one lap of the race. These 10 drivers were Suarez, Keselowski, Harvick, Blaney, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin, Stewart-Haas Racing Aric Almirola and Clint Bowyer, Hendrick Motorsports teammates William Byron and Chase Elliott and Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon.

Logano won stage won while Dillon won stage two after Logano and several of the drivers at the front of the field had to pit for fuel late in this stage. The race also featured a total of seven caution flag periods, including four that took place as a result of on-track incidents.

Of the other three caution flag periods, one was a competition caution flag period that took place as a result of the fact that the track had been rained on overnight and the other two were the regular two caution flag periods at the ends of stages one and two.

All but two of the 36 drivers who started the race finished it, and of the 34 drivers who did manage to do so, and impressive 25 finished on the lead lap. These 25 drivers all finished within 3.709 seconds of one another.
