Lewis Hamilton won the French Grand Prix at Circuit Paul Ricard in his first attempt in the 2018 Formula 1 season. Will he make it two for two in this Sunday’s race?

Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport’s Lewis Hamilton had never previously competed in a Formula 1 race at Circuit Paul Ricard prior to the 2018 season. In fact, all of the drivers who competed in the race at the track in June of 2018 had never competed in a race at the track before.

Hamilton ended up winning the race at the 15-turn, 3.630-mile (5.842-kilometer) Circuit Paul Ricard road course in Le Castellet, France last season, which was the first Formula 1 race at the track since the 1990 season, making him one for one at the track.

As a result, he is set to attempt to go two for two at the track in this Sunday’s race, the French Grand Prix.

In the 2018 French Grand Prix, Hamilton started from the pole position. He led all but one of the race’s 53 laps, as Scuderia Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen took the lead before coming into the pits one lap after Hamilton, at which point Hamilton retook the lead via what was the race’s second and final lead change.

Hamilton ended up winning the race by 7.090 seconds over Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen, who shot from fourth to second place on the first lap by avoiding the first-turn incident involving Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas.

Will Hamilton earn his second victory in two attempts at Circuit Paul Ricard, or will another driver win at the track for the first time since Scuderia Ferrari’s Alain Prost did so in July of 1990?

Throughout the race weekend of the first race at Circuit Paul Ricard since the 1990 season last year, there was never any reason to believe that a driver other than Hamilton would win the race.

In his first time competing at the track, Hamilton was the fastest driver in practice for the race and he proceeded to take the pole position for it before going on to dominate it. In other words, he has never been anything less than the best at this track.

There is no reason to bet against the 34-year-old Briton this weekend, and that’s without considering the fact that he has won five of the 2019 season’s first seven races, including each of the last three, and the fact that he has won seven of the last nine races that have been contested going back to least season without finishing any of them outside of the top two.
