NASCAR Cup Series: Kyle Larson takes pole for 2019 Toyota/Save Mart 350

Kyle Larson took the pole position for the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season’s 16th race, the Toyota/Save Mart 350, at Sonoma Raceway.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson took his first pole position of the 36-race 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season for the season’s 16th race, the Toyota/Save Mart 350, at Sonoma Raceway.

Larson, who also took the pole positions for this race in the 2017 and 2018 seasons, took the pole position for this 90-lap race around the 12-turn, 2.52-mile (4.056-kilometer) Sonoma Raceway road course in Sonoma, California by recording a top lap time of 94.784 seconds (95.712 miles per hour) in the second and final round of qualifying for the race in his #42 Chevrolet.

Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron is set to start the race alongside Larson on the front row after qualifying in second place in his #24 Chevrolet, giving Chevrolet a sweep of the front row. Byron’s top lap time in this round of qualifying was 94.827 seconds (95.669 miles per hour), which was just 0.043 seconds (0.043 miles per hour) slower than that of Larson.

Team Penske’s Joey Logano was the highest qualifying Ford driver for this race. He qualified in third place in his #22 Ford and is set to start alongside Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott in fourth in his #9 Chevrolet. Stewart-Haas Racing’s Daniel Suarez qualified in fifth in his #41 Ford.

Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. were the highest qualifying Toyota drivers for this race. They qualified in sixth, seventh and eighth place in their #11 Toyota, #18 Toyota and #19 Toyota, respectively.

Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney and JTG Daugherty Racing’s Chris Buescher are set to round out the  top 10 on the starting grid for this race after qualifying in ninth and 10th place in their #12 Ford and #37 Chevrolet, respectively.

Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jimmie Johnson and Alex Bowman were the slowest of the two drivers who advanced to the second and final round of qualifying for this race. They qualified in 11th and 12th place in their #48 Chevrolet and #88 Chevrolet, respectively.

This race, the Toyota/Save Mart 350, is the final race of the season that is set to be broadcast on either Fox or Fox Sports 1, and it is Darrell Waltrip’s final race in the Fox Sports broadcast booth as well.
