Christopher Bell has been disqualified and stripped of his third place finish in the Camping World 300, the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Chicagoland Speedway.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell originally finished the 33-race 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series season’s 15th race, the Camping World 300, at Chicagoland Speedway in third place in his #20 Toyota.

However, the 24-year-old Norman, Oklahoma native has been disqualified and stripped of this third place finish as a result of the fact that his #20 Toyota failed post-race inspection. Instead, he will officially be scored in 38th (last).

Here is what Xfintiy Series managing director Wayne Auton had to say about why Bell was disqualified from this race, according to NASCAR.

"“When we put the sticks on, the car failed both front heights and the right rear. The front was extremely low. The right rear was a little high, which is normally what you’ll see whenever a car on the front sort of tilts toward the front. The rear’s going to come up; it’s got to go somewhere.“Things happen and we feel 100% confident that we did our job the way we do every car. We checked every car the same way. We had five other cars that went right through the same process at the end of the race … and they all cleared the heights just fine. Since we started this in Daytona back in February, this is the first one that we’ve even seen close. I think [crew chief] Jason [Ratcliff] was a little surprised, and I’m sure they’ll go back and do their due diligence to see exactly what may have happened.”"

Joe Gibbs Racing have until Monday, July 1 at 12:00 p.m. ET to initiate the appeal process for Bell’s disqualification.

Over the course of this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Chicagoland Speedway oval in Joliet, Illinois, Bell scored 51 points, including 34 points for his third place finish in the race itself, eight points for his third place finish in stage one and nine points for his second place finish in stage two.

With his disqualification and subsequent 38th place classification, he has been stripped of 50 of these 51 points, including all 17 stage points, and left with just one point.

This disqualification drops Bell from second to third place in the championship standings behind Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer, who dominated this race by leading 151 of its 200 laps en route to tying Bell atop the wins list with his fourth victory so far this season.

Because of Bell’s disqualification, everybody who originally finished this race from fourth through 38th place was promoted by one position. The only two drivers whose finishing positions were not affected by this disqualification were Custer and second place finisher Joey Logano of Team Penske.
