NASCAR Cup Series: Daniel Suarez takes pole for 2019 Quaker State 400

Daniel Suarez took his first pole position of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season for the season’s 19th race, the Quaker State 400, at Kentucky Speedway.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Daniel Suarez took the pole position for the 19th race on the 36-race 2019 NASCAR Cup Series schedule at Kentucky Speedway, the Quaker State 400. This pole position is his first pole position of the season and the second pole position of his Cup Series career.

Suarez took the pole position for this 267-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Kentucky Speedway oval in Sparta, Kentucky by recording a top lap time of 29.254 seconds (184.590 miles per hour) in his #41 Ford in the single-car qualifying session for this race.

Suarez, who was the 36th and final qualifier for this race, led a top two Stewart-Haas Racing sweep and a top three Ford sweep in this qualifying session. Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola was the driver who Suarez knocked off the provisional pole position with his session-ending run.

As a result, Almirola is set to start this race in second place in his #10 Ford. Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski is set to start in third in his #2 Ford.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kurt Busch was the highest qualifying Chevrolet driver of the race. He qualified in fourth place in his #1 Chevrolet.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick qualified in fifth place in his #4 Ford, giving Stewart-Haas Racing three of the top five positions. Richard Childress Racing rookie Daniel Hemric qualified in sixth in his #8 Chevrolet and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer qualified in seventh in his #14 Ford, so all four of Stewart-Haas Racing’s drivers are set to start in the top seven.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. was the highest qualifying Toyota driver of the race. He qualified in eighth place in his #19 Toyota. Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch rounded out the top 10 in this qualifying session by qualifying ninth and 10th in their #3 Chevrolet and #18 Toyota, respectively.
