NASCAR Cup Series: Brad Keselowski takes pole for 2019 Consumers Energy 400

Brad Keselowski took the pole position for the Consumers Energy 400 at Michigan International Speedway, the 23rd race on the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series schedule.

Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski took his second pole position of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season and his second pole position in the last four races for the 36-race season’s 23rd race and second race at Michigan International Speedway, the Consumers Energy 400. He also took the pole position for the race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway three weekends ago.

Keselowski took the pole position for this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.0-mile (3.219-kilometer) Michigan International Speedway oval in Brooklyn, Michigan by recording a top lap time of 37.801 seconds (190.471 miles per hour) in his #2 Ford in the single-car qualifying session for this race.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick qualified in second place in his #4 Ford after Keselowski knocked him off of the provisional pole position with the final qualifying run of the day, giving Ford a front row sweep of the starting lineup for this race.

Hendrick Motorsports teammates William Byron and Alex Bowman were the highest qualifying Chevrolet drivers for this race. They qualified in third and fourth place in their #24 Chevrolet and #88 Chevrolet, respectively. Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer rounded out the top five by qualifying in fifth in his #14 Ford.

Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott and Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon gave Chevrolet four of the top seven positions in the starting lineup by qualifying in sixth and seventh place in their #9 Chevrolet and #3 Chevrolet, respectively.

Team Penske teammates Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano and Wood Brothers Racing’s Paul Menard, however, gave Ford drivers six of the top 10 positions by qualifying in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #12 Ford, #22 Ford and #21 Ford, respectively.

The five drivers who qualified from 11th through 15th place were also Chevrolet or Ford drivers, with three representing the former and two representing the latter. As a result, the highest qualifying Toyota driver for this race was Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin. He qualified all the way down in 16th in his #11 Toyota.
