George Russell called out the “hateful” Polish fans of Formula 1 teammate Robert Kubica, and he had every right to do so.

George Russell has been impressive in his rookie Formula 1 season after winning the 2017 GP3 Series championship and then the 2018 Formula 2 title, especially considering the fact that he drives for ROKiT Williams Racing, by far the slowest team on the grid.

Most notably, the 21-year-old Briton has outperformed teammate Robert Kubica, who is competing in Formula 1 this season for the first time since 2010 after a rally crash in 2011 derailed the ride he had lined up with Scuderia Ferrari for the 2012 season.

Despite the fact that Russell has outperformed and really dominated the 34-year-old Pole and former Formula 1 race winner, he has been faced with tons of not only criticism but pure hate.

However, most if not all of that criticism and hate has come from Kubica’s Polish fans, who insist that Russell is nothing special, that he gets better equipment from Williams and is their overall prioritized driver and that Kubica is the far superior driver.

Russell recently called out these fans. Here is what he had to say, according to Motorsport.

"“It’s a little bit hurtful that 50% of the comments on my posts are hate from Polish supporters, whereas the other 50% is complete support for me. I mean, I do truly only care about the view from inside what Williams think of me, what Mercedes think of me. But you also want to be respected from outside. I’ve not come across anyone who’s disrespecting me, or giving any hate to me, who are not from Poland. So, I appreciate the situation and I can only hope one day I have fans as passionate as his.”"

While these comments may be perceived by some as prejudiced because he has calling out people from a specific country, they are anything but. Plus, he isn’t calling all Polish fans “hateful”.

He is stating facts, and he has every right to do so.

He is calling out these particular fans because these particular fans are the ones railing against him on a weekly basis for no other reason than the fact that he is whooping his teammate’s rear end race in and race out, and they refuse to accept that because to them, “Robert Kubica is the GOAT”.

In a matter of just 12 races, these fans have become the most outrageous fans that Formula 1 has to offer.

In what other sport is the most ridiculous fanbase the fanbase of the worst team or athlete?

Russell has outqualified Kubica in each race so far this season, and he has finished ahead of him in all but two. He has lapped him in five of the 10 races in which he finished ahead of him.

However, because one of the races in which Kubica finished ahead of Russell was the German Grand Prix, a race that resulted in nine non-Williams drivers either wrecking, being forced to retire with mechanical issues or being hit with post-race time penalties, Kubica finished in 10th place and scored the team’s first and only point of the season.

This has only resulted in more misguided hatred toward Russell, as these fans have taken this and run with it despite the fact that this 1-0 margin is perhaps the biggest misrepresentation among teammate battles in Formula 1 history.

Even in the German Grand Prix, Williams cost Russell a potential top five finish by not listening to him when he wanted to come into the pits and get new tires during a late safety car period, so even when Kubica beats Russell every once in a blue moon, it’s thanks to Williams’ poor calls.

Yet somehow we’re supposed to believe that Russell is the prioritized driver when he has never needed any aid whatsoever to absolutely school his much more experienced teammate. These drivers even swapped chassis earlier this season, yet Russell still proceeded to beat Kubica in the next race, the Spanish Grand Prix.

Regardless of how it may look on the surface, George Russell has every right to call out the arrogant and hateful Polish fans of Robert Kubica who have done nothing but intoxicate social media with their lies, foolishness and hatred toward the rookie through the first 12 races of Kubica’s return season to Formula 1.
