NASCAR Cup Series: William Byron takes pole for 2019 Bojangles’ Southern 500

William Byron took the pole position at Darlington Raceway for the penultimate race on the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series regular season schedule, the Bojangles’ Southern 500.

Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron took the pole position for the 25th of 26 races on the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series regular season schedule at Darlington Raceway, the Bojangles’ Southern 500. This pole position is his fourth pole position of the season, tying him with Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick for the most among all drivers.

Byron took the pole position for this 367-lap race around the four-turn, 1.366-mile (2.198-kilometer) Darlington Raceway oval in Darlington, South Carolina by recording a top lap time of 28.510 seconds (172.487 miles per hour) in his #24 Chevrolet in the single-car qualifying session.

Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski qualified in second place as the highest qualifying Ford driver in his #2 Ford and is set to start alongside Byron on the front row.

Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Kyle Larson and Kurt Busch are set to share row two after qualifying in third and fourth place in their #42 Chevrolet and #1 Chevrolet, respectively.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Daniel Suarez qualified in fifth place in his #41 Ford and is set to start alongside Hendrick Motorsports’ Jimmie Johnson in sixth in his #48 Chevrolet on row three. Team Penske’s Joey Logano qualified in seventh in his #22 Ford and is set to start alongside Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott in eighth in his #9 Chevrolet on row four.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin was the highest qualifying Toyota driver for this race. He qualified in ninth place in his #11 Toyota and is set to start alongside Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney in 10th in his #12 Ford on row five.
