Kevin Harvick took his series-high fifth pole position of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season for the regular season finale, the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick broke the tie atop the pole positions list with Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron by taking his fifth pole position of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season for the 26th and final race on the regular season schedule at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard.

Had Byron taken the pole position for this race, more commonly known as the Brickyard 400, he would have become the first driver in Cup Series history to take the pole position for each of the four crown jewel races on the schedule in a single season. Instead, he qualified in 29th place in his #24 Chevrolet.

Harvick ultimately took the pole position for this 160-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana by recording a top lap time of 48.448 seconds (185.766 miles per hour) in the single-car qualifying session for this race in his #4 Ford.

Wood Brothers Racing’s Paul Menard nearly knocked Harvick off the pole position late in this qualifying session, but he had to settle for second place by recording a lap time that was just 0.011 seconds (0.042 miles per hour) slower than Harvick’s. He is set to roll off alongside Harvick on the front row in his #21 Ford.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer and Team Penske’s Joey Logano completed a top four Ford driver sweep by finishing in third and fourth place in their #14 Ford and #22 Ford, respectively. Hendrick Motorsports’ Jimmie Johnson was the highest qualifying Chevrolet driver of the race. He qualified in fifth in his #48 Chevrolet.

Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski qualified in sixth place in his #2 Ford ahead of the highest qualifying Toyota driver of the race, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch. Busch qualified in seventh in his #18 Toyota.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kurt Busch, Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola rounded out the top 10 by qualifying in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #1 Chevrolet, #12 Ford and #10 Ford, respectively.
