Martin Truex Jr. recovered from a spin to win his second straight race to open up the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs at Richmond Raceway.

Martin Truex Jr. got to do two “burnouts” tonight.

Two Joe Gibbs Racing drivers have been spun out by Roush Fenway Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr. before going on to win a short track race in the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season.

After Kyle Busch pulled it off at Bristol Motor Speedway in April, Truex pulled it off in the second of 10 playoff races at Richmond Raceway.

Truex has now secured a series-high six victories through the first 28 races of the 36-race 2019 season, and he has won two races in a row, the first two races of the playoffs, after entering the four-round, 10-race playoffs without a victory since June.

Truex started this 400-lap race around the four-turn, 0.75-mile (1.207-kilometer) Richmond Raceway oval in Richmond, Virginia in eighth place in his #19 Toyota, and he won it by 2.630 seconds over Busch in second in his #18 Toyota.

Joe Gibbs Racing swept the top four, as Denny Hamlin finished in third place in his #11 Toyota ahead of Erik Jones in fourth in his #20 Toyota.

This top four sweep was the team’s top four sweep ever, and it was their third top three sweep of the season. They also pulled it off in the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway to open up the season in mid-February and at Pocono Raceway in late July.

Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski was the highest finishing non-Joe Gibbs Racing driver and the highest finishing Ford driver of this race. He finished in fifth place in his #2 Ford.

Roush Fenway Racing’s Ryan Newman finished in sixth place in his #6 Ford ahead of the highest finishing Chevrolet driver, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson, in seventh in his #42 Chevrolet.

Stewart-Haas Racing teammates Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer and Daniel Suarez rounded out the top 10 by finishing in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #4 Ford, #14 Ford and #41 Ford.

After Stenhouse spun Truex in the race’s third and final stage, Truex only fell to third place thanks to the ensuing caution period. He took advantage of that to battle back and take the checkered flag in “spin and win” fashion.

This race featured only six lead changes among three drivers. Keselowski started the race from the pole position and led 89 laps, but Truex and Busch both led more, with Truex leading 109 laps and Busch leading a race-high 202. Truex won stage one before Busch won stage two.

Of the 38 drivers who started the race, all but two finished it, and of the 36 drivers who finished it, 13 finished on the lead lap.
