Lewis Hamilton knocked a phone out of a fan’s hands during this past Formula 1 race weekend, but what he did next was special.

Five-time Formula 1 champion and 81-time Grand Prix winner Lewis Hamilton is well-known for rushing his Mercedes around the race track, but this past weekend ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay Street Circuit, he found himself rushing off the track as well.

That did not bode well for one unlucky fan.

Rushing to get to the garage ahead of one of the practice sessions for this 61-lap race around the 23-turn, 3.146-mile (5.063-kilometer) Marina Bay Street Circuit temporary street circuit in Marina Bay, Singapore, Hamilton tried to slip by this fan, who was recording on his phone at the time, on his scooter.

In doing so, Hamilton made contact with this fan’s elbow, which caused his phone to come crashing to the ground.

The 34-year-old Briton turned around to quickly see what had transpired, but he continued on his way.

However, that wasn’t the end of the story.

Somehow Hamilton and this fan, revealed to be Chris Stott, met again, and Hamilton signed an apology on the back of Stott’s phone.

“I’m so sorry. Was rushing to get in the car. Best wishes!” the message reads, preceding Hamilton’s signature, the year and the race.

Stott called this move a “great gesture” by the five-time champion.

Hamilton went on to finish the Singapore Grand Prix in fourth place behind Ferrari teammates Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc in first and second and Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen in third after Mercedes’ strategy gamble cost Hamilton a spot in the top two, if not the victory.
