Formula 1: Charles Leclerc breaks up with girlfriend to focus on Ferrari

Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc has broken up with his girlfriend Giada Gianni, with her stating that he did so to focus on Ferrari.

Charles Leclerc had been dating model girlfriend Giada Gianni since January of 2015.

Leclerc has been driving in Formula 1 since March of 2018 after being confirmed on the grid with Alfa Romeo Sauber in December of 2017, and he has been driving for Scuderia Ferrari since March of 2019 after being confirmed by the team in September of 2018.

But evidently the 21-year-old Monegasque felt that only one out of his girlfriend and his Formula 1 career could continue on with him, and he opted to retain the latter.

Gianni, a 21-year-old Italian who was regularly seen with Leclerc during Formula 1 race weekends, announced in an Instagram Live video that she and the Ferrari driver had split.

Vanity Fair reported that she stated, “Charles left me. He wants to devote himself only to Ferrari.”

Leclerc has not confirmed that this is the reason for the split, but the split itself is evident.

Leclerc, who has more than 2.4 million Instagram followers, is no longer followed by Gianni, and Gianni, who has more than 59.7 thousand Instagram followers, is no longer followed by Leclerc. Additionally, Gianni has removed several pictures of the 2016 GP3 Series and 2017 Formula 2 champion from her profile.

So far this season, Leclerc has taken a series-high six pole positions, and he recently became the first Ferrari driver to take four consecutive pole positions since seven-time champion Michael Schumacher did so in the 2000 season.

He also became the first non-Mercedes driver to do so since the 2011 season when current teammate Sebastian Vettel did so driving for Red Bull Racing.

Leclerc’s aim is to become Ferrari’s first champion since Kimi Raikkonen, the driver he replaced ahead of the 2019 season, won the 2007 title, and to make Ferrari the constructor champions for the first time since the 2008 season when Raikkonen and Felipe Massa drove for the team.

Leclerc currently sits in third place in the driver standings and is 107 points behind Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton for the lead of the standings (322 to 215) with just five races remaining on the schedule, meaning that his championship hopes are pretty much gone for 2019. He has won two races so far this year, the Belgian Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix. Only Hamilton with nine victories has won more.

Ferrari, meanwhile, sit in second place in the constructor standings and trail Mercedes by 162 points (571 to 409), meaning that their title hopes are also pretty much gone for 2019 as well.

Charles Leclerc is slated to return to Ferrari along with Sebastian Vettel for the 2020 Formula 1 season, which is when his goal and the team’s goal will be to end what have become quite lengthy championship droughts for the most successful team in the history of the sport.
