Todd Gilliland did not hold back after winning his first NASCAR Truck Series race, telling team owner Kyle Busch to stay in his f—ing motorhome.

Earlier this season, Kyle Busch Motorsports NASCAR Truck Series team owner Kyle Busch stated that his two full-time drivers, Todd Gilliland and Harrison Burton, “ain’t doing shit”.

Now Gilliland, who did not qualify for this year’s playoffs, secured his first career Truck Series win in Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR Hall of Fame 200 at Martinsville Speedway.

The 19-year-old Sherrills Ford, North Carolina native let loose on the radio, telling his critical boss to “stay in his f-cking motorhome”.

Gilliland explained after the fact that it was a heat of the moment thing. Here is what he had to say after the race.

"“It was heat of the moment really. Just a lot of emotions. Everyone’s heard what he said. Obviously, it’s true, we should have been running better. I’ve wanted to win for the last year and a half as well. I’m doing all I can and the guys at the shop are. It was pretty much heat of the moment. Probably wish I didn’t say it now, but it is what it is. He’s said some stuff about me. It is what it is.”"

There is already speculation that Gilliland will lose his ride with Kyle Busch Motorsports next season. Perhaps this reaction confirmed that news.

But in Busch’s case, he, too, is an emotional person — and above all, an emotional driver and competitor — so perhaps he will be happy that his driver bought into his earlier criticism and fed off of it to finally get the job done and win. If there’s one driver who places winning over everything, it’s Busch, so perhaps he will find value in Gilliland’s reaction since it was in the heat of the moment, even though it was directed at Busch.

With that being said, you never want to bite the hand that feeds you, and without his opportunity to drive for Kyle Busch Motorsports, Gilliland would not have driven his #4 Toyota to victory lane for the first time today. Taking criticism and responding to criticism aren’t naturally one in the same depending on how that response is constructed.
