NASCAR Cup Series: Cole Custer won’t drive for Go Fas Racing in 2020
By Asher Fair
Go Fas Racing ruled out hiring Cole Custer to drive the #32 Ford in the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season despite a technical alliance with Stewart-Haas Racing.
Rumors about Cole Custer’s NASCAR future have been heating up for much of the 2019 season. Custer is in his third season in the Xfinity Series, and he is in the midst of a breakout year.
After entering the season with two career victories, the Stewart-Haas Racing driver has been to victory lane a series-high seven times through the first 30 races of the 33-race season, and he is well-positioned for a return trip to the Championship 4 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where he ultimately finished in second place in the championship standings last season.
In August, a rumor began to circulate that Go Fas Racing would form a technical alliance with Stewart-Haas Racing in the Cup Series next year.

Such a technical alliance would potentially open the door for Stewart-Haas Racing to promote Custer to the Cup Series but without bringing him directly to their four-car team, which would allow them to retain their current lineup, something they haven’t done from year to year since between the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Now that technical alliance is official, both teams confirmed earlier this week.
But Custer is reportedly not even in the discussion as a potential driver of the #32 Ford next year, according to Go Fas Racing team owner Archie St. Hilaire.
Corey LaJoie, who currently drives the #32 Ford, stated a few weeks that he would likely be back for a second season at Go Fas Racing, and while the team have not yet confirmed his return, he appears to be the driver most likely to land the new Stewart-Haas Racing-affiliated ride with the one-car Ford team.
With Cole Custer officially out of the running, who will Go Fas Racing sign for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season, and where will Custer end up? Will he remain with Stewart-Haas Racing for a fourth consecutive season in the Xfinity Series, or will he replace Daniel Suarez behind the wheel of the #41 Ford in the Cup Series?
