Corey LaJoie has been rumored to return to Go Fas Racing for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season amid rumors of a technical alliance with Stewart-Haas Racing.

After driving part-time for BK Racing in the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series season and part-time for TriStar Motorsports in the 2018 season, Corey LaJoie landed the first full-time ride of his Cup Series career for the 2019 season at Go Fas Racing.

The 28-year-old Charlotte, North Carolina native drives the #32 Ford for the underfunded team, and through the first 32 races of the 36-race season, he sits in 29th place in the championship standings.

He has recorded six top 20 finishes so far this season, including a career-high sixth place finish in the July race at Daytona International Speedway and a seventh place finish in the October race at Talladega Superspeedway.

There have been rumors for several months now that Stewart-Haas Racing will retain their current four drivers for the 2020 season and form a technical alliance with Go Fas Racing to promote Cole Custer, one of their two Xfinity Series drivers, to the Cup Series next year. They have already confirmed three of their four drivers for next year.

Such a move would presumably leave LaJoie looking for a new ride. In fact, he has already been rumored as a potential replacement candidate for the retiring David Ragan at Front Row Motorsports.

However, according to Sports Business Journal’s Adam Stern, LaJoie is learning toward staying with Go Fas Racing for the 2020 season.

As Stern also stated, there is still a possibility that Stewart-Haas Racing will form a technical alliance with Go Fas Racing, even if LaJoie stays. They are reportedly looking to jettison some of their cars for the 2020 season as a result of the extra inventory that they expect to have after the season with the Gen-7 chassis and body slated to be introduced ahead of the following year.

This could potentially open up the door for Go Fas Racing to field two cars, one for LaJoie and one for Custer, or it could also result in Stewart-Haas Racing waiting to promote Custer to the Cup Series until the 2021 season and directly to their four-car team once the Gen-7 chassis and body are introduced.
