Lewis Hamilton dominated the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit from the pole position to close out the 2019 Formula 1 season.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport’s Lewis Hamilton closed out the 2019 Formula 1 season with his 11th victory of the year and his 84th career victory, and he did it in dominant fashion, leading every lap of what was a rather tame Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit.

Hamilton, who secured the 2019 championship last month, started this 55-lap race around the 21-turn, 3.451-mile (5.554-kilometer) Yas Marina Circuit road course on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from the pole position, and he won it by 16.772 seconds over Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen in second place, making him a five-time winner of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The top three finished where they started, as Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, whose car will go under investigation following this race due to a potential technical breach, finished in third place to finish his first season at Ferrari on the podium.

Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas, who qualified in second place but was forced to start in 20th (last) after Mercedes were forced to replace power unit elements on his W10 since he was forced to retire from the Brazilian Grand Prix at Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace two weeks ago, drove his way to a fourth place finish.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finished in fifth place ahead of Red Bull Racing rookie Alexander Albon in sixth. SportPesa Racing Point’s Sergio Perez, McLaren rookie Lando Norris, Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat and McLaren’s Carlos Sainz Jr. rounded out the top 10 by finishing in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively.
