NASCAR: 2020 Bluegreen Vacations Duels starting lineups
By Asher Fair
The starting lineups for the Bluegreen Vacations Duels, which will ultimately set the starting lineup for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500, have been set.
After Sunday’s single-car qualifying session for next Sunday’s 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, two drivers need not worry about the results of this coming Thursday night’s Bluegreen Vacations Duels.
Those two drivers, JTG Daugherty Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman, have secured their starting positions on the front row for the season opener. Stenhouse took his first pole position for the race while Bowman secured his third consecutive front row start.
As for the rest of the field, they will have to secure their positions in the starting lineup for this 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) superspeedway oval in Daytona Beach, Florida this Thursday evening.

Two 60-lap races around the track will set the starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s main event. The finishing order of the first race will determine the odd starting positions while the finishing order of the second race will determined the even starting positions.
The starting lineups for these races were determined by Sunday’s qualifying session. Stenhouse will be on the pole position for the first race while Bowman will be on the pole position for the second.
Among drivers not starting the Daytona 500 on the front row, Hendrick Motorsports teammates Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson were the fastest in Sunday’s qualifying session, finishing in third and fourth place, respectively. As a result, they are set to start on the front row in their respective Duel races.
It is worth noting that there is another battle going on due to the fact that there are 43 entries and only 40 starting positions available for the Daytona 500. That battle is simply to get into the field.
With 36 chartered entries and thus 36 drivers already locked into the field, seven drivers entered Sunday’s qualifying session battling for four open spots. Two of them, Kaulig Racing’s Justin Haley and Beard Motorsports’ Brendan Gaughan, solidified their positions in the race, meaning that only two of the remaining five will do so; the other three will be headed home early.
Here is the starting lineup for Bluegreen Vacations Duel 1.
