How do the unofficial championship standings look with the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series in the books and real NASCAR action scheduled to resume next weekend?

The seventh and final race of the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series was the first to take place at the virtual version of a track that had not been originally scheduled to host a real NASCAR Cup Series race prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

This race took place at virtual North Wilkesboro Speedway on Saturday afternoon, and it was won by Denny Hamlin, who became the second multi-race winner of this virtual series.

This virtual series has served as the replacement for real-life NASCAR action ever since the pandemic brought the 2020 season to a halt back in March.

The other multi-race winner was William Byron, who won three of the first six races but did not compete in the series finale.

Byron won the races at virtual Bristol Motor Speedway, virtual Richmond Raceway and virtual Dover International Speedway. Hamlin also won the race at virtual Homestead-Miami Speedway.

A total of 53 drivers competed in at least one of the seven races on the schedule, and 16 competed in all seven of these races. A total of 10 drivers competed in just one race, and two of those drivers competed in the race at virtual North Wilkesboro Speedway. Those two drivers, Jon Wood and Martin Truex Jr., finished in 13th and 20th place, respectively.

Points were not officially tallied throughout this series. But what would the championship standings have looked like if they had been tallied using NASCAR’s scoring system (without stage points)?

Despite winning just one race at virtual Texas Motor Speedway, it was Timmy Hill who finished atop the unofficial championship standings, and with quite a comfortable margin over second place Garrett Smithley.

Smithley, whose top finish was a third place finish in the race at virtual Texas Motor Speedway, finished 32 points behind Hill, which equates to an extra fifth place finish. Hamlin finished 17 points behind Smithley.

Byron finished highest in the unofficial championship standings among the drivers who did not compete in every race, as he placed fourth.

The eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series has served as a great virtual replacement for real-life NASCAR Cup Series action amid the coronavirus pandemic over the last several weeks. But with that virtual series now in the books after seven races, real-life NASCAR Cup Series action is scheduled to resume at Darlington Raceway on Sunday, May 17. This race, which is slated to be the fifth of the season, is slated to be the first in 10 weeks since the pandemic brought the 2020 season to a halt following the race at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, May 8.
