In NASCAR’s first race back, Kyle Busch and M&M’s have a special “Thank You” message to share with the many heroes helping to overcome the coronavirus pandemic.

For the first time in 10 weeks, the NASCAR Cup Series is set to be in action this Sunday, May 17 — in real-life, not on iRacing.

After the first four races of the 2020 season were contested from Monday, February 17 to Sunday, March 8, the coronavirus pandemic forced eight race dates to be removed from the schedule, and there has been no live action since Joey Logano won at Phoenix Raceway that afternoon.

But Darlington Raceway, which hadn’t originally been scheduled to host a Cup Series race until the playoffs, was given two additional race dates to get the season back underway as soon as possible.

In addition to the race on Sunday, May 17, the four-turn, 1.366-mile (2.198-kilometer) oval in Darlington, South Carolina is also set to host a race on Wednesday, May 20, before the series travels to Charlotte Motor Speedway for another two races, including one which was originally schedule.

For the first race at Darlington Raceway, Kyle Busch, Joe Gibbs Racing and primary sponsor M&M’s are set to run a special paint scheme on the #18 Toyota Camry to honor the heroes who have, in many cases, put their lives on the line to help keep everybody else safe during these trying and uncertain times.

M&M’s wanted to show their deep gratitude to all those front-line heroes who have been working round the clock during this pandemic, and they are doing so with the “Thank You Heroes” paint scheme.

This scheme, which is one of several tribute schemes set to be run this weekend, is just a small token of the appreciation, gratitude and admiration M&M’s has for all of the front-line workers — nurses, doctors, delivery drivers, grocery store works, manufacturing employees, etc. — around the country and for all of the tireless work that have been doing for the last several weeks and months amid the most unprecedented crisis which any of us have ever faced.
