NASCAR: Live 2020 Charlotte qualifying updates
By Asher Fair
Follow along with our live qualifying updates for the seventh race of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
For the first time since Saturday, March 7 at Phoenix Raceway, the NASCAR Cup Series is set to have a life qualifying session this afternoon at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Full qualifying recap: KURT BUSCH TAKES CHARLOTTE POLE
The two races contested at Darlington Raceway, the first two races back from the 10-week hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic, did not feature traditional single-car qualifying sessions or any pre-race track activity this past week, but we are back to setting the starting order by lap times for the Coca-Cola 600, the longest race of the season.
A total of 40 drivers are set to compete in this evening’s 400-lap race, the seventh race of the 2020 season, around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) oval in Concord, North Carolina.

This is only the third race on the schedule to feature a traditional qualifying session this year. Daytona 500 qualifying is unique in that it features a session much like this afternoon’s, but with two Duel races afterward to determine the full starting lineup.
The qualifying session for the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was rained out, so the only two traditional qualifying sessions this season have taken place at Auto Club Speedway and Phoenix Raceway.
Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer and Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott took the pole positions at those two tracks, respectively.
Who will qualify where for this evening’s Coca-Cola 600? Follow along with our live qualifying updates (beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET).
