Now back in the top 12 in the standings, Aric Almirola drew the pole position for Saturday’s Pocono Organics 325 NASCAR Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola put himself back in the top 12 in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings following his third place finish in this past Monday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway, giving himself a chance to draw the pole position for this Saturday’s race at Pocono Raceway.

That is exactly what happened, as Almirola is set to start Saturday’s 130-lap Pocono Organics 325 at the three-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) triangle in Long Pond, Pennsylvania from the pole position in his #10 Ford.

Almirola had been outside of the top 12 in the championship standings for two consecutive races before this week. For each of the last four races which he has entered inside the top 12 in points, he has drawn the front row. This is, however, his first pole position.

The front row for this race is set to be the same as it was for the race at Martinsville Speedway two and a half weeks ago, but with a different order. Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney is set to start in second place in his #12 Ford.

While the front row was swept by Ford drivers, the second row was swept by Toyota drivers, specifically Joe Gibbs Racing drivers. Denny Hamlin is set to start in third place in his #11 Toyota while Kyle Busch is set to start in fourth in his #18 Toyota.

Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott drew the highest starting position among the Chevrolet drivers and is set to start in fifth place in his #9 Chevrolet. He is set to be joined on the third row by Team Penske’s Joey Logano in sixth in his #22 Ford.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kurt Busch, Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski, Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick and Hendrick Motorsports’ Alex Bowman are set to round out the top 10 in the starting lineup in their #1 Chevrolet, #2 Ford, #4 Ford and #88 Chevrolet after drawing seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place, respectively.

The two drivers who entered this race in the top 12 in the championship standings with a shot at taking the pole position but did not manage to even draw top 10 starting positions were Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. and Hendrick Motorsports’ Jimmie Johnson. They are set to start in 11th and 12th place in their #19 Toyota and #48 Chevrolet, respectively.
