Joey Logano drew the pole position for Sunday’s Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Team Penske’s Joey Logano is set to start Sunday’s Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway from the pole position in his #22 Ford after drawing the top spot in Thursday night’s random draw.

This random draw marked the eighth random draw through the 12 races that have been contested since the sport returned from the 10-week hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic after just four of the season’s 36 races had been contested. Logano has not started a race from the pole position yet this season.

Logano is set to start Sunday afternoon’s 160-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) oval in Speedway, Indiana on the front row alongside Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kurt Busch, who is set to start in second place in his #1 Chevrolet.

Set to share the second row are Hendrick Motorsports teammates Alex Bowman and Jimmie Johnson in third and fourth place in their #88 Chevrolet and #48 Chevrolet, respectively.

Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola is set to start in fifth place in his #10 Ford alongside Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin, who drew the highest position among the Toyota drivers, in sixth in his #11 Toyota. Both of these drivers have reeled off four consecutive top five finishes.

Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. are set to share the fourth row in seventh and eighth place in their #18 Toyota and #19 Toyota, respectively. Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski and Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott are set to share the fifth row in ninth and 10th in their #2 Ford and #9 Chevrolet, respectively.

The top 12 drivers in the championship standings had the same chance to take the pole position, based on the rules of the random draw process.

The two drivers in the top 12 who did not even draw inside the top 10 were Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick and Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney. They are set to start on the sixth row in 11th and 12th place in their #4 Ford and #12 Ford, respectively.
