Lewis Hamilton took his second pole position of the 2020 Formula 1 season for the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring.

In what was yet another dominant qualifying session for Mercedes, which appear to be the only team with any chance whatsoever of taking any pole positions or wins in the 2020 Formula 1 season, Lewis Hamilton took his second pole position of the season and the record 90th pole position of his career.

Hamilton is set to start the season’s third race, the Hungarian Grand Prix, at the Hungaroring alongside teammate Valtteri Bottas in second place.

Hamilton took the pole position for this 70-lap race around the 14-turn, 2.722-mile (4.381-kilometer) road course in Mogyorod, Hungary by recording a top lap time of 73.447 seconds (133.419 miles per hour) in the third and final round of qualifying.

Bottas finished 0.107 seconds (0.196 miles per hour) behind Hamilton with a top lap time of 73.554 seconds (133.225 miles per hour).

The top three rows were all locked out by specific teams, but with sizable speed gaps separating each row. The second row was locked out by Racing Point, with Lance Stroll qualifying in third place and Sergio Perez qualifying in fourth, while the third row was locked out by Ferrari, with Sebastian Vettel qualifying in fifth and Charles Leclerc qualifying in sixth.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, the reigning race polesitter, had a disappointing qualifying session and qualified in seventh place. McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz Jr. qualified in eighth and ninth while AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly rounded out the top 10 by qualifying in 10th.

Eliminated after the second round of qualifying were Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo, Williams’ George Russell, Red Bull’s Alexander Albon, Renault’s Esteban Ocon and Williams rookie Nicholas Latifi. These five drivers qualified in 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th place, respectively. Russell is now 24-0 in his career in terms of outqualifying his teammates.

Eliminated after the first round of qualifying were Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, AlphaTauri’s Daniil Kvyat, Haas’ Romain Grosjean and Alfa Romeo teammates Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen. These five drivers qualified in 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th place, respectively.
