Formula 1: Silverstone starting lineup – Lewis Hamilton takes pole

Lewis Hamilton took the pole position for the fourth race on the 2020 Formula 1 schedule, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit.

For the third time through the first four qualifying sessions of the 2020 Formula 1 season and the third race in a row, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton took the pole position, this time for his home race, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit.

A polesitter has not failed to win a race yet this year.

Hamilton, who overcame a spin during the second round of qualifying, took the pole position for this 52-lap race around the 18-turn, 3.661-mile (5.892-kilometer) road course in Silverstone, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom by recording a top lap time of 84.303 seconds (156.336 miles per hour) in the third and final round of qualifying.

Set to start alongside Hamilton, who now owns a record 91 career pole positions, on the front row in second place for the second consecutive race is teammate Valtteri Bottas.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc are set to share the second row in third and fourth place, respectively.

Set to share the third row are McLaren’s Lando Norris and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll in fifth and sixth place, respectively. McLaren’s Carlos Sainz Jr., Renault teammates Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel are set to round out the top 10 in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively.

Eliminated after the second round of qualifying were AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly, Red Bull’s Alexander Albon, Racing Point’s Nico Hulkenberg, who is replacing Sergio Perez after Perez tested positive for COVID-19, AlphaTauri’s Daniil Kvyat and Williams’ George Russell. These five drivers qualified in 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th place, respectively.

Eliminated after the first round of qualifying were Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, Alfa Romeo teammates Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen, Haas’ Romain Grosjean and Williams rookie Nicholas Latifi. These five drivers qualified in 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th place, respectively.
