Kevin Harvick secured his third win at Michigan International Speedway since the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season and his fifth win of the 2020 season in the FireKeepers Casino 400.

The lead for Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin atop the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series wins list did not last long, as Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick secured his fifth win of the year at Michigan International Speedway.

Harvick has now won at the four-turn, 2.0-mile (3.219-kilometer) oval in Brooklyn, Michigan in each of the last three seasons, as he has won three of the last four races at the track.

He held off Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski along with several other drivers on a number of late restarts and choose rule decisions to win today’s overtime-extended 161-lap race, which featured 12 lead changes among seven different drivers. He won the race by 0.284 seconds over Keselowski in his #2 Ford.

Harvick, who won both stage one and stage two en route to the race victory, led a race-high 92 laps in his #4 Ford.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. rallied from an early flat tire and falling a lap off the lead lap to lead the Toyota drivers in third place in his #19 Toyota.

Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney finished in fourth place in his #12 Ford ahead of Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch in fifth in his #18 Toyota. Busch had the lead late before contact with Harvick mired him back in the pack.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin finished in sixth place in his #11 Toyota ahead of Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott, who took the lead on a late restart but lost a lot of ground on the final one en route to a seventh place finish in his #9 Chevrolet.

Team Penske’s Joey Logano, Richard Petty Motorsports’ Bubba Wallace, Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kurt Busch rounded out the top 10 in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #22 Ford, #43 Chevrolet and #1 Chevrolet, respectively.
