Corey LaJoie confirmed on Friday that will not return to Go Fas Racing for what would have been a third year in the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Another 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Silly Season domino has fallen. Corey LaJoie has announced that he will not return to Go Fas Racing behind the wheel of the #32 Ford next year.

The 28-year-old Concord, North Carolina native has driven for Archie St. Hilaire’s one-car Ford team since the 2019 season, and they are the first team for which he has driven full-time in the Cup Series. He drove part-time for Randy Humphrey Racing in 2014, BK Racing in 2017 and TriStar Motorsports in 2018 before landing this opportunity.

Here is what he had to say about his departure, according to NASCAR.

"“I’m sure most of you have seen the silly season news regarding the mutual decision for me to part ways with Go Fas Racing after this season. My partners and I are in discussions with several other opportunities to continue improving competitively in the Cup Series. Go Fas has been a significant part of my growth. Together, over the last two years of competing, we’ve achieved career-best finishes for both myself and the team. I’ve enjoyed working with all the guys and made lifelong friendships. Archie runs a great team. I wish them all the best next season.”"

More from NASCAR Cup Series

LaJoie has competed in 116 Cup Series races, including 59 as the driver of the #32 Ford. He has recorded three top 10 finishes, all as a Go Fas Racing driver. He finished in a career-high sixth place in the July race at Daytona International Speedway last year.

He finished in 29th place in the championship standings last season with an average finish of 25.9, and he currently sits in 29th in points with an average finish of 24.3 this year in what is Go Fas Racing’s first season having a technical alliance with the four-car Stewart-Haas Racing. His best finish of the year thus far his his eighth place finish in the season-opening Daytona.

LaJoie has been vocal about his desire to land a better ride in the Cup Series. He joked about “applying” to replace Kyle Busch at Joe Gibbs Racing after one of Busch’s outbursts last year, and he delivered a handwritten letter to Hendrick Motorsports team owner Rick Hendrick before the 2020 season since Jimmie Johnson is set to retire after this year.

And, of course, there was the Twitter beef with Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin from a few months ago.

Go Fas Racing have not yet named LaJoie’s replacement for the 2021 season, but this could make room for Stewart-Haas Racing Xfinity Series star Chase Briscoe to be promoted to the Cup Series if he doesn’t end up replacing Clint Bowyer or Aric Almirola at the four-car operation.
