Lewis Hamilton took yet another pole position, his sixth of the 2020 Formula 1 season, for the Italian Grand Prix at Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton kept his hot streak alive by taking his sixth pole position in the last seven Formula 1 races, as he and teammate Valtteri Bottas locked out the front row for the Italian Grand Prix at Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

This marks six consecutive front row lockouts for the Silver Arrows and three straight pole positions for Hamilton, who extended his all-time record to 94.

Hamilton took the pole position for this 53-lap race around the 11-turn, 3.6-mile (5.794-kilometer) road course in Monza, Italy by recording a top lap time of 78.887 seconds (164.286 miles per hour), the fastest lap in Formula 1 history, in the third and final round of qualifying for the race.

He beat Bottas, whose top lap time was 78.956 seconds (164.142 miles per hour) by just 0.069 seconds (0.144 miles per hour).

Beyond the two Mercedes drivers, however, there were quite a few surprises. McLaren’s Carlos Sainz Jr. and Racing Point’s Sergio Perez are set to share the second row after qualifying in third and fourth place, respectively, as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was only able to qualify in fifth. He is set to start alongside McLaren’s Lando Norris in sixth on the third row.

Set to share the fourth row are Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll in seventh and eighth place, respectively, and set to share the fifth row are Red Bull’s Alexander Albon and AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly in ninth and 10th, respectively.

Eliminated after the second round of qualifying were AlphaTauri’s Daniil Kvyat, Renault’s Esteban Ocon, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, who qualified in 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th place, respectively.

Eliminated after the first round of qualifying were Haas’ Romain Grosjean, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi and Williams teammates George Russell and rookie Nicholas Latifi, who qualified in 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th place, respectively. Russell is now an impressive 29 for 29 in in terms of outqualifying his teammates throughout his career.
