Lewis Hamilton secured his 90th career Formula 1 victory in the Tuscan Grand Prix at Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello.

It may have been more chaotic than last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Autodromo Nazionale Monza, but the second consecutive Formula 1 race in Italy at Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello resulted in quite an expected result at the front.

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton secured his 90th career Formula 1 victory in the Tuscan Grand Prix to move to within one win of Michael Schumacher for the all-time record after starting from the pole position, and he led teammate Valtteri Bottas across the line by 4.880 seconds for a Silver Arrows 1-2 result.

Hamilton, who now owns a series-high six wins in 2020, also recorded the race’s fastest lap and secured a bonus point for doing so, giving Mercedes a maximum 44 points for the first time this season despite the fact that they have won seven of the nine races that have been contested.

This 59-lap race around the 15-turn, 3.259-mile (5.245-kilometer) road course in Scarperia e San Piero, Tuscany, Italy started with 20 drivers, and it finished with just 12 due to the carnage.

The race featured two red flag periods, marking the first time since 2011 that two consecutive races featured at least one red flag, and a total of three safety car periods, as the safety car that came out on the opening lap did not result in a red flag.

Red Bull’s Alexander Albon secured his first career podium finish in his 30th start with a third place finish after making his way around Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo late in the race. Ricciardo settled for fourth, tying his best result since he joined Renault ahead of last season.

Racing Point’s Sergio Perez still hasn’t failed to score points in a race he has started this season, as he finished in fifth place. He has competed in seven of the nine races that have been contested so far this year, as he missed the two races at Silverstone Circuit after testing positive for COVID-19.

McLaren’s Lando Norris finished in sixth place ahead of AlphaTauri’s Daniil Kvyat in seventh. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished in eighth ahead of Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen, who scored his first points of the year with a ninth place result after being demoted from eighth after the race due to a pit lane entry violation that netted him a five-second time penalty. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finished in 10th.

The race featured two lead changes, one on the initial start when Bottas took the lead from Hamilton and then one on the first of two standing restarts when Hamilton retook the lead. He never looked back.
