Kevin Harvick is slated to start from the pole position to open up the round of 12 of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Based on NASCAR‘s starting lineup formula, Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick is slated to start the opening race of the round of 12 of the 2020 Cup Series playoffs, the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, from the pole position behind the wheel of his #4 Ford.

This would mark Harvick’s fourth pole position as a result of this formula in the seven races for which it has been used.

Harvick is set to start from the pole position in this 267-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) oval in Las Vegas, Nevada as a result of having the best combination of most recent race result (50% weight), position in the owner standings (35% weight), and rank of his fastest lap in the most recent race (15% weight) among the 12 remaining championship contenders.

He won the most recent race at Bristol Motor Speedway and his #4 team leads the owner standings to open up the round of 12 and has led it after every race going back to the season’s fourth race at Phoenix Raceway in early March.

In terms of his fastest lap in the most recent race, Harvick ranked second behind only Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch. Busch, whose #18 team sits in 10th place in the owner standings, is slated to start alongside Harvick in second due to the fact that he recorded the fastest lap in the most recent race and finished in second in that event.
