A Joey Logano NASCAR Cup Series championship would result in a sweep across NASCAR, Formula 1 and IndyCar which hasn’t been seen since 1957.

Most fans don’t like predictable outcomes in sports. Such is the case in motorsports, whether that be in NASCAR, Formula 1 or IndyCar.

That is why the rare feat we could see accomplished across these three series this year is particularly impressive. Even amid a Formula 1 era that has been dominated by a single driver on a single team, we have not seen this particular feat achieved in more than six decades.

It hinges on the NASCAR Cup Series.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

Four drivers are set to battle for the 2020 Cup Series title this Sunday, November 8 at Phoenix Raceway, with those four drivers being 2012 champion Brad Keselowski, 2018 champion Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott.

It technically hinges on Formula 1 as well, but let’s be realistic with ourselves here: while it hasn’t been clinched yet, Lewis Hamilton would need to suffer one of the greatest collapses in the history of not only Formula 1 and not only racing but in all of sports to not secure a seventh world championship and fourth consecutive world championship in Formula 1 this year, given his lead over Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas in the driver standings.

In IndyCar, it was Scott Dixon who secured his sixth career championship after leading the standings following every single one of the season’s 14 races, something that had not been done since 2001.

Hamilton and Dixon both won championships in 2018 as well. As a result, should Logano win his second Cup Series title this weekend, it would mark the first time that the championships in all three series have matched in any two seasons in 63 years.

Only one time have the NASCAR, Formula 1 and IndyCar champions been the same in two separate seasons.

It happened to take place in consecutive years back in 1956 and 1957, when Buck Baker won both Cup Series titles, Juan Manuel Fangio won both Formula 1 titles and Jimmy Bryan won both IndyCar (then known as USAC National Championship Trail) titles.
