Only one driver aside from Lewis Hamilton has scored points in all of his starts in the 2020 Formula 1 season, and that driver is Sergio Perez.

Lewis Hamilton is well on his way to a record-tying seventh career Formula 1 world championship, and he could very well tie Michael Schumacher’s mark in this Sunday’s Turkish Grand Prix at Intercity Istanbul Park.

He has an 85-point lead over teammate Valtteri Bottas with four races remaining on the modified 17-race schedule, and as long as he leads Bottas by at least 78 points following this Sunday’s race, there will not be any way for him to drop out of the lead of the driver standings.

But one driver aside from Hamilton has been extraordinarily impressive in 2020, matching him in one particular category, yet he has flown under the radar. That lone driver is Racing Point’s Sergio Perez.

Sergio Perez, like Lewis Hamilton, has not failed to score points in any of his starts so far in the 2020 Formula 1 season.

Hamilton’s worst finish of the season is his seventh place finish in the Italian Grand Prix at Autodromo Nazionale Monza, while Perez’s worst results of the year are his 10th place finishes in that race and in the Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps one week prior.

The 30-year-old Mexican did miss the two races at Silverstone Circuit after testing positive for COVID-19, so the only caveat here is that he is 11 for 11 compared to Hamilton’s 13 for 13.

Nico Hulkenberg served as his replacement while he was out, although he did not get the opportunity to compete in the first race due to mechanical issues. He finished in seventh place in the second after starting in an impressive third, and as the replacement for teammate Lance Stroll at the Nürburgring later in the season, he finished in eighth after starting in 20th (last).

Perez sits in sixth place in the driver standings with 82 points as he battles with Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo (fourth, 95 points) and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (fifth, 85 points) for the “best of the rest” title behind the trio of Hamilton, Bottas and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

Because of his two missed starts, his average points per race mark of 7.45 actually ranks better than that of both Ricciardo (7.31) and Leclerc (6.54).

Unfortunately for Perez, he does not yet know where he will be competing next year, as he is set to be replaced by four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, who currently competes for Ferrari, at Racing Point, which are set to be rebranded as Aston Martin, next year.
