Lewis Hamilton still has a chance to tie or break multiple other Michael Schumacher records in the 2020 Formula 1 season. Here are three.

The 2020 Formula 1 season has seen Lewis Hamilton reach double-digit victories and win the world championship for the sixth time in the last seven seasons, and once again, it has been a record-breaking season for the 35-year-old Briton.

Hamilton has tied or surpassed multiple records that had been held by seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher already this season, most notably the wins and championships records.

With 10 wins through 14 races, Hamilton has 94 career victories to his name. Entering the season, Schumacher held the record with 91. With 12 podium finishes, he has 163 to his name. Entering the season, Schumacher held the record with 155.

Additionally, Hamilton has secured his seventh career world championship, tying Schumacher’s record.

Also, Hamilton’s Hungarian Grand Prix victory was his eighth, tying Schumacher’s record for the most wins in a single race. Schumacher won the French Grand Prix on eight occasions.

And most recently, Hamilton also now has 73 wins as a Mercedes driver. Schumacher’s record for wins with a single constructor had been 72 with Ferrari.

But Hamilton may not be done matching and surpassing Schumacher quite yet.

There are a number of records held by Schumacher which Hamilton could break or at least tie in the very near future. Here are three which he could match or surpass throughout the rest of the 2020 season.

Wins in a single season

In the 18-race 2004 season, Schumacher was victorious a record 13 times. In the 19-race 2013 season, Sebastian Vettel tied that record. With three races remaining in the 17-race 2020 season, Hamilton has 10 victories.

As a result, he has a chance to run his win total to 13 by the time the season ends, which would arguably be even more impressive given the fact that we are in the midst of a shortened season. His career-high single-season win total is 11, which he set in the 19-race 2014 season, the 21-race 2018 season and the 21-race 2019 season.

Most podium finishes with a single constructor

Hamilton’s 73rd Mercedes victory also marked his 114th Mercedes podium finish (163 total). Schumacher recorded 116 of his 155 podium finishes with Ferrari.

Laps led

After leading 22 laps in his historic Turkish Grand Prix victory, Hamilton has now led 5,043 laps of the 15,054 laps he has completed throughout his career. Schumacher led 5,111 of the 16,824 laps he completed. Hamilton has led at least 10 laps in 13 consecutive races and at least 44 in nine of those 13 races.
