Rich Energy 2021 landing spots: 8 teams it won’t be

Assuming the news is true, Rich Energy would end up with a single team in Formula 1 for the 2021 season. Here’s why we’re convinced that whatever this one team is will be one of the two already mentioned and none of the remaining eight.

Here are the remaining eight.

Mercedes

Why even bother writing an explanation? Okay, I will. Ineos recently became a one-third stakeholder in the team, along with Daimler and team principal Toto Wolff. But let’s face it. Even without that — Rich Energy Mercedes? Lol.

Red Bull

This won’t happen for the same reason NASCAR’s top level was never the “Monster Energy Red Bull Cup Series”. Red Bull are losing title sponsor Aston Martin, but they aren’t replacing it period, much less with another energy drink, especially one that has taken many shots at the team over the years.

McLaren

United States-based investment group MSP Sports Capital recently took a significant minority stake in McLaren as the team look to build on what was their best season in nearly a decade in 2020.

Aston Martin

More from Formula One

Aston Martin just signed a deal with Cognizant to become their title sponsor as they compete in Formula 1 for the first time since 1960. Let’s also not forget the fact that Rich Energy already tried to buy the former Force India/Racing Point team for £100 million in 2018.

Ferrari

Ferrari already have Mission Winnow as their title sponsor, and while they did struggle in 2020, they have no need for Rich Energy to come on board.

AlphaTauri

AlphaTauri is a Red Bull brand, and the team itself is the Red Bull sister team. No chance.

Alfa Romeo

PKN Orlen recently extended their co-title partnership deal with Alfa Romeo through the 2021 season.

Haas

Could you imagine this reunion? No, you can’t, and there is no need to. Plus, Haas now have Dmitry Mazepin’s money in their back pocket.

Where will Rich Energy end up if they return to Formula 1 in 2021 like they say they plan to? The season is scheduled to get underway on Sunday, March 28 with the Bahrain Grand Prix at Bahrain International Circuit after the original season opener, the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit, was postponed from Sunday, March 21 to Sunday, November 21 due to coronavirus pandemic-related restrictions in Melbourne, Australia.
