NASCAR: 2021 Daytona 500 – Live qualifying updates
By Asher Fair
Follow along with our live qualifying updates for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 from Daytona International Speedway.
Just over three months after Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott secured his first career NASCAR Cup Series championship with his victory in the Championship 4 season finale at Phoenix Raceway, live action is set to return this weekend with the 2021 season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.
But first, we have to do something that we haven’t done since May of last year: qualify.
That’s right. For the first time since last year’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Cup Series is scheduled to set a starting lineup by actually qualifying on-track.
The post-coronavirus pandemic-hiatus saw NASCAR shift primarily to random draws and then to a new starting lineup formula to set the order for each race.

For the most part, 2021 should look similar, as there are only seven other races on this year’s schedule for which there is actually scheduled to be a live qualifying session.
Despite no longer being one week before the race itself like it had been, Daytona 500 qualifying is set to be done like usual, first with single-car qualifying today to set the front row and the starting lineups for the Bluegreen Vacations Duels and then with the Bluegreen Vacations Duels tomorrow to set the entire starting lineup for Sunday’s main event.
So who will take the pole position for the 63rd annual Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway? Follow along with our live qualifying updates to find out.
